Alan Nogee is the Director of the Clean Energy Program for the Union of Concerned Scientists, managing the organization's research and advocacy on sustainable energy issues. The Union of Concerned Scientists is the leading science-based nonprofit working for a healthy environment and a safer world. UCS combines independent scientific research and citizen action to develop innovative, practical solutions and secure responsible changes in government policy, corporate practices, and consumer choices. The UCS Clean Energy Program examines the benefits and costs of the country's energy use and promotes energy solutions that are sustainable both environmentally and economically.
Mr. Nogee has over twenty nine years of experience as an energy analyst and advocate. Prior to joining UCS as a Senior Energy Analyst in 1994, Mr. Nogee was the Energy Program Director for the Massachusetts Public Interest Research Group (MASSPIRG). He previously worked as an Energy Analyst with the Environmental Action Foundation, in Washington, D.C., and with state and regional energy organizations in Pennsylvania.
Mr. Nogee has published numerous reports and articles and has extensive experience in legislative and regulatory testimony. He co-authored Clean Energy Blueprint: A Smarter National Energy Policy for Today and the Future, an October 2001 Union of Concerned Scientists analysis of the costs and benefits of national clean energy policies. He has testified on renewable energy and environmental issues in Massachusetts, Connecticut, Vermont, New Hampshire, and New Jersey and before Committees of the U.S. Senate and House of Representatives. He has assisted organizations involved in the restructuring process in a number of other states and at the federal level. He serves on the national Green Power Board, which advises the Green-e certification process, on the Board of Directors of the Renewable Energy Policy Project, on the Massachusetts Renewable Energy Trust Fund Advisory Board, and on the Board of the Wind Energy Works! Coalition. He has previously served on the Massachusetts Division of Energy Resources State Energy Plan Economic Development Task Force, the Massachusetts Governor's Advisory Committee on Energy, and the MIT Energy Laboratory Analysis Group for Regional Electricity Alternatives.
Mr. Nogee has received his undergraduate degree summa cum laude from Brandeis University and has served as adjunct faculty at the University of Massachusetts, Boston.
