April 21, 2010 --- The LIHI Board, in a very busy day, certified four projects as Low Impact. The Projects are located in New Hampshire, Massachusetts, Arkansas, Idaho, and Montana. The sharp eyed math whizzes amongst you have probably figured out that one of these projects is in two states and you are right! The Clark Fork Project (Cabinet Gorge facility) is located at river mile 150 in the state of Idaho and the Noxon Rapids dam is located at river mile 170 in the state of Montana. Besides the Clark Fork, the Board certified the Arkansas River Dam No. 2, in Arkansas, the Alternatives Hydro on the Mumford River in Massachusetts, and the Penacook Upper located on the Contoocook River in New Hampshire. For more detailed information on any or all of these certified Projects, click on the Certified Facilitiies and scroll to the project.
In reaching its decision to certify these Projects, the Low Impact Hydropower Institute's Governing Board reviewed the applications for certification, as well as the Application Reviewers' reports. The Board's vote to certify the four projects was unanimous.
With one exception the certification term is five years (the Clark Fork was certified for 8 years).
During the time the Hydroelectric Projects are certified, the owners may market the Hydroelectric Project facilities as LIHI certified facilities.
