"Green Tag" Sales:
Certified LIHI facilities have the potential to sell Renewable Energy Certificates (RECs) or "green tags" as a benefit of being certified. A REC or "green tag" represents the environmental attribute of a unit of electricity generated from a non-fossil fueled energy source. The certificates can be marketed and sold separately from the underlying electricity generated and can provide additional revenue for the LIHI-certified facility.
